- Executive Director, Rabbi Raachel Nathan Jurovics
In addition to serving as Executive Director of the Yavneh Center for Deep Ecumenism, Rabbi Raachel Jurovics is the leader and founding Rabbi of Yavneh: A Jewish Renewal Community, located in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Reb Raachel began her training as a spiritual leader in 1995 under the auspices of the Union for Reform Judaism, and in 1998 she began her studies in the Jewish Renewal Rabbinic Training Program. In 2003, she receivedsmicha (ordination) as a mashpia ruchani (spiritual director) from Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi and rabbinic smicha from the seminary. Prior to becoming the spiritual leader of Yavneh in 2010, she served as Program Director, Assistant Rabbi, and Associate Rabbi at Temple Beth Or, a Reform congregation in Raleigh starting in 1997. In addition, Reb Raachel maintains a multi-faith spiritual direction practice and has served on the Spiritual Direction faculty of the Jewish Renewal Seminary.
During her career, Rabbi Jurovics has been involved in congregational and community service in numerous capacities. She has served on the boards of the Leo Baeck Temple (Los Angeles), the San Fernando Valley Fair Housing Council, the Los Angeles County Human Relations Council, Temple Beth Or (Raleigh), North Carolina Religious Coalition for Reproductive Rights, Raleigh-Cary Jewish Federation Jewish Family Services, and OHALAH, the Jewish Renewal Rabbinic Organization. She has also been a member of Pastoral Services Committee of the Triangle AIDS Interfaith Network, North Carolina Council of Churches Task Force, Vigils Against Violence Committee of the Wake County Interfaith Alliance, Advisory Committee of LimiTV, Rex Hospital and WakeMed Ethics Committees, and B'yachad, an inter-congregational community service organization.
Rabbi Jurovics is a native of Los Angeles and holds B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in English Medieval Literature from UCLA. Her professional experience includes freelance writing and editing; communication skills training and consulting; and software design. Reb Raachel's family relocated to Raleigh in 1983. She and her spouse, Dr. Stephen Jurovics, take great joy in their family, including son Toby and daughter Nicole, son-in-law Greg Lee, and granddaughters Shaina Adrian and Rachael Renee.
- Director of Operations, Lewis Copulsky
Lewis Copulsky is responsible for managing the on-going operations necessary to ensure that the Center for Deep Ecumenism achieves its objectives. This includes financial management, planning and development of Multifaith.com (the Center’s online portal), oversight of the Center’s lecture series and other local programming, and marketing and public relations.
Lewis has a diverse background spanning small business management, marketing and sales, market research, teaching, educational software development, video production, publishing, and fine arts. In addition to a B.A. degree from Bard College and an M.F.A. degree from Rutgers University, Lewis has a certificate in Non-Profit Management from Duke University.
